Q: I have a Nissan Leaf and I’m getting a Tesla Model 3, will this work with both vehicles?

A: Yes, the AmazingE is compatible with the Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Model 3. The AmazingE will deliver about 12 miles of range per hour of charge on each of these vehicles, 3X more range per hour when compared to Level 1 (120V) charging. 

Q: Is the AmazingE® compatible with the 2017 Chevy Volt?

A: Yes, the AmazingE® is compatible with the Chevy Volt, as well as all other electric vehicles available in North America. With 3.8kW of goodness the AmazingE® would charge the Chevy Volt as fast as it can be charged which is about 4 – 4.5 hours from empty to full, 3x faster when compared to Level 1 (120V) charging. 

Q: Hi is this compatible with Mitsubishi I miEV?

A: Yes, the AmazingE® is compatible with the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, as well as all other electric vehicles available in North America. With 3.8kW of goodness, the AmazingE would charge the Mitsubishi iMiEV from empty to full in about 5 hours.

Q: Is this EV charger compatible with the Fiat 500e?

Q:  I’m new to this so I am doing some research.  Will I need a different cable for every type of plug I may need to use: one for CHAdeMO; one for J-1772; one for NEMA 14-50; and one for a standard 120V outlet?  I will be purchasing a Nissan Leaf.

A: The SAE-J1772 is the connector that goes into the vehicle and not an outlet type. The NEMA 14-50 outlet can often be found in RV parks and campgrounds. The NEMA 14-30 plug/outlet is common for electric clothes dryers so if you are traveling to family or friend’s houses you may be able to use the same outlet their dryer plugs into. Sometimes using a Level 2 (240V) charging station for on the go traveling can be tricky as there is no standard type of 240V outlet so you would have to know that there is a matching outlet wherever you go.

Many drivers will use the public charging stations they find PlugShare and leave the Level 2 (240V) charging station installed at home for faster charging during the day or overnight.

The Nissan Leaf has a SAE-J1772 inlet for Level 1 and Level 2 charging and then the CHAdeMO inlet for DC Fast Charging. The DC Fast Charging stations are different from Level 2 charging as they will provide 480V power for charging and charge the vehicle from 20% to 80% in about 30 – 45 minutes.

The Leaf will come with a Level 1 cordset in the trunk of the vehicle that you can use to plug into a standard 120V outlet and it will utilize the SAE-J1772 connector. If you are getting the newest model Leaf the highest trim you can purchase will come with a cordset that can charge at both 120V power and 240V power. This cordset will come with come with the NEMA 14-50 plug and then an adapter to go to 120V power.

Q: Do you have a version to quick charge golf carts?

A: Do the golf carts you want to charge utilize the SAE-J1772 connector? If it does it would have a charging port that looks like this:

The SAE-J1772 connector is the industry standard connector for electric vehicles in North America. The AmazingE has the connector to plug into this inlet.

Q: How fast will the AmazingE® EVSE charge my electric vehicle?

Q: What is the charging time difference between the AmazingE and the cordset that came with the car?

Q: I recently bought this station and it looks exactly like the charging station that came with my Bolt (but faster). Is it the same manufacturer?

A: Yes!

Q: Can this EV charger be used outdoors in the rain/snow? Is it weatherproof? If plugged in outside, does the outlet need to be GFCI protected?

A: Yes, the AmazingE® can be used outdoors in the rain, snow, direct sunlight, etc. The AmazingE® is built into a fully sealed, NEMA 4 rated enclosure to ensure all the components inside are protected from the elements. For an outdoor installation it would be recommended to have a weather proof cover installed over the plug/outlet combination. The AmazingE® does not require a GFCI breaker as there is protection built in. You would only need to have a GFCI breaker installed if it were required by your local codes.

Q: Are AmazingE® EV Charging Stations safe to use?

A: YES! The AmazingE® Girl would never stand behind a charging station that wasn’t safety certified. The AmazingE® is safety certified by UL – an independent Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. It’s been tested and proven safe under hundreds of different conditions!

A: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us and checking the status of the UL listing. The AmazingE® is UL listed as a complete assembly to UL 2594 (the applicable standard), this includes the cable/handle. UL 2594 tests all of the core safety functions as well as the construction of the product to ensure it is safe for use. Q: What if I want to plug in when I get home but wait to charge until electricity rates are lower?

A: Your vehicle is in control of the charge, and most EVs let you specify a time to start charging. The AmazingE® EVSE will follow any timing rules the vehicle has set and will not supply power to the vehicle until the appointed time.

Q: Does it plug in to a regular outlet?

A: The AmazingE® is a Level 2 (240V) charging station that simply plugs into a NEMA 14-30 outlet. The NEMA 14-30 outlet is a 30A, 240V rated outlet that is common for electric clothes dryers. The AmazingE® will not plug into a standard 120V.

Q: Why can’t there be a standard charge port for all vehicles? I can’t charge a Nissan Leaf at a Tesla charging station. Or vice versa. When I want to fill up my Ford, I go to the same type of pump that I fill up a Chevy at.

A: The North American standard for Level 1 (120V) and Level 2 (240V) charging is the SAE-J1772 connector. The only vehicles that do not use the SAE-J1772 connector are Tesla vehicles, however they can use a SAE-J1772/Tesla adapter that comes with the vehicle to charge at a unit with the SAE-J1772 connector. The Tesla charging stations are designed to charge a Tesla vehicle only. There are also different connectors for DC Fast Charging which include the SAE Combo Connector, CHAdeMO connector, and the Tesla connector. There is not currently a set standard for the fast charging connectors.

Q: Should I unplug the AmazingE EVSE between charges?

A: There is no need to unplug the AmazingE between charges. Most customers leave the unit plugged in to ensure they do not forget to plug it in and miss out on charging.

Q: Should I turn power off at the circuit breaker panel when not in use?

A: There is no need to turn off power to the unit. If you want to turn off the power you can, however using the breaker as a switch can cause it to become worn over time which will be prone to tripping and may need to be replaced.

Q: If I am only able to plug in for an hour how much range will I get?

A: If your vehicle is capable of taking in the full 3.8kW for charging the AmazingE® will provide about 11-13 miles of range per hour of charge.

Q: Is the J1772 outputting 110V or 220V to the vehicle? I realize that 220V is input but what is output?

A: The AmazingE® would output 220V power. The charging station is meant as a safety pass through for power and will not alter the voltage from the input connection. This means the station will output the same voltage as the input voltage as long as it is within the stations operating range (185V to 264V). NOTE: If connected to 110V power in some manner, the station will throw an error and no power will be passed to the car.

Q: I have an older home that has a 3-wire 240V receptacle vice the 14-30, 4 wire that your product uses. Do you make a 3 prong 240V charger?

A: The 3 prong dryer outlet is an older style dryer outlet that was replaced with the 4 prong outlet in the early 90s. The 3 prong outlet is called the NEMA 10-30 and we do not offer the AmazingE® with the matching plug type because the corresponding outlet for this plug type is typically wired with a neutral wire as opposed to an earth ground and the AmazingE® will require an earth ground connection in order to operate properly. Additionally, when charging a vehicle the ground is passed through to the vehicle from the station for safety earth grounding during charging. If a neutral is used instead of a ground the neutral could generate a charge on the vehicle chassis, creating a potential safety hazard upon contact with the vehicle during or after charging. If you find a charging station available with the NEMA 10-30 plug it is likely not safety certified. It would be recommended to have your outlet repurposed into the NEMA 14-30 outlet to match the plug type that comes with the AmazingE®.

Q: The outlet in my garage is NEMA 10-30 3 pin (as found in older properties) and this device appears to use newer 4 pin 10-30 plug, how to install?

A: You would need to re-purpose the 10-30 receptacle, or if you are using the 10-30 for another appliance you could run a new circuit for the 14-30 outlet. If you are re-purposing the 10-30 outlet to a 14-30 we would recommend contacting a licensed electrician to get this work done. The 10-30 outlet would have 3 of the 4 wires required for the 14-30 outlet, you would need to locate a ground connection, there may be one in the existing 10-30 outlets junction box, or you would have to run a new ground line out to the outlets location and replace the 10-30 cover with the 14-30 cover.

Q: I am replacing an existing charger supplied by 2 hot wires + ground. Am I correct that a neutral wire is not needed for this application?

A: The AmazingE® only requires line 1, line 2, and ground. The AmazingE® comes with the NEMA 14-30 plug which has a neutral prong, however there is no neutral wire connected to this prong from inside the unit. It would be recommended to consult with a licensed electrician when installing the matching NEMA 14-30 outlet as it may be required by local electrical codes to have a neutral wire connected to the outlet.

Q: Is it okay to install AmazingE® EV charging station outdoors?

A: Yes, the AmazingE® EVSE enclosure has a watertight NEMA 4 rating. The AmazingE® is built and tested for safe use outdoors. Be sure to follow all local electrical codes when installing a 240V NEMA 14-30 outlet and the AmazingE®. Refer to the AmazingE® User Manual for further instruction.
